FAQs

Why do concrete quotes in Houston vary so much for the same job?

Almost always because of what is below the surface. A lower quote often means less excavation, thinner or no sub-base work, lighter reinforcement, or fewer control joints, all things you cannot see once the concrete is down but all things that decide how it handles clay movement. When you are comparing estimates, ask each contractor what they are doing to the sub-base and what reinforcement they are using. The answers usually explain the price gap entirely.

Will my new concrete crack?

All concrete cracks. That is not a defect; it is a property of the material, and any contractor who promises otherwise is not being straight with you. What we control is where it cracks. Properly placed control joints direct where concrete cracks so it stays hidden and structurally sound, rather than appearing at random across the middle of your driveway. Joint spacing and placement is one of the more consequential decisions on a Houston pour.

How soon can I drive on or use a new concrete surface?

Concrete gains strength gradually after the pour, and how quickly depends on the mix, the slab and the weather that week, since summer heat and winter damp behave differently. Rather than give you a number that might not fit your job, we will tell you specifically when your surface is ready for foot traffic and when it is ready for vehicles. It is part of the walkthrough, and you can call us any time before then to check.

Do you handle HOA and architectural approval for patios and pergolas?

Several of the communities we work in have architectural review requirements for structures like patio covers and pergolas, and we are familiar with how those processes generally run. We will provide the drawings, material details and specifications you need for a submission, and we are happy to answer questions your committee raises. The application itself stays with you as the homeowner, since HOAs deal directly with property owners.

Do you only do full replacements, or can you repair what is already there?

Both. Plenty of driveways and patios have localised problems, such as a settled section, surface spalling or joint deterioration, where repair or resurfacing makes far more sense than tear-out. What we will not do is resurface over a slab whose base has failed, because the new surface will simply follow the old one. We will look at it and tell you honestly which category yours falls into.
